ALIENWARE AURORA SERIAL ATA CONTROLLER DRIVER UPDATE
Sometimes something as seemingly harmless as a Windows Update could cause this if it makes a change to Windows that alters the way the driver you had was communicating with the operating system. When did this problem first show up? If it's recent and had been working prior to this with no system changes, then it COULD be a sign of failing hardware (don't worry, this probably isn't the case). If it's a custom machine, go to the motherboard manufacturer's site or contact the motherboard manufacturer. Is it a pre-built OEM machine? If so, take a look on the manufacturer's website. To get the necessary drivers, you'd want to take a look at your system. Is there an error number or message that goes along with this or do you just get a generic "Device is not working properly" message? Try a Google search for the error message to get a clearer picture, or post it here and we'll take a look.
I always recommend working out ALL hardware issues on your system to avoid random crashes, system slowdown, odd errors or possible hardware failures that can cascade. It's possible to have multiple controllers and if they're responsible for ports you are NOT using, then you may not have any issues but even if a device is not in use you can end up with system crashes and instability. The Serial ATA Controller, or SATA controller, is a component of your motherboard that allows the computer to make use of SATA devices (IE: HDDs, optical drives, etc).
